Gene
Hong Kong born emerging artist Florian Ma Ho Yin created a world of signs teeming with aesthetics, history and life symbols at his 2011 exhibition Gene held at the Hong Kong K11 Art Mall.
Both Genesis and Evolution are parts of the world Ma wants to explore in this exhibition. Growing up under the influences of cartoon, animation and comic books, Ma uses vivid visual languages to interpret how the beginning of the world evolves through processes of life, growth and reproduction. Many rational and irrational mythical discourses, such as the Big Bang, Genesis, the Garden of Eden and the goddess Venus, are expressed in either Renaissance or abstract styles, representing the new generation’s exploration of life.
The Art Space was transformed into a creative concept zone. In there, Ma displayed various multi-media exhibits such as neon light, sculpture, image, painting and video work re-interpreting the story of Adam and Eve.
